Kazamaza:

4629, avenue Du Parc
Montreal, QC H2V 4E4
(514) 844-6292

Must orders:

  • Muhammara.
  • Fattoush Salad.
  • Leg of Lamb tajine with Tahini Sauce.

Service and atmosphere:

The staff and environment is very casual, not dressy, nice and dim lighting, great middle eastern grunge music playing, generally very chilled out.

Food:

Let me start by saying that the Fattoush Salad in Kazamaza is officially the best Fattoush salad I have had in the montreal university/downtown area…

Fattoush:

Amazing!packed with mint, crunchy lettuce, ripe red tomatoes, and pomegranate with those amazingly fried crunchy bread slices and bits of pomegranate beads were like a roller coaster of flavour in my mouth …officially my fave fattoush.

Lamb:

The lamb was large…a big leg with lots of veggies and doused in a lovely sauce…I would even say it could feed 3 people if you got a few dips (which you HAVE to do…they’re too good not to)

I ordered the leg of lamb in tahina sauce which ended up being my favorite because the meat was so tender it just flaked off the bone, and then dip a fork of that lush meat in the creamy tahina with raw slice onions and peppered with bright purple Sumac.

another which was not bad but personally not comparable to the Tahina,it was a tomato based sauce with chunks of aubergine…nicely flavoured.

Shrimp:

The Garlic shrimps were lovely and perfectly cooked, but not a very satisfying portion so its not something I would regularly get but its was GREAT and worth tasting.

(the eggplant caviar with tahina and minced meat with pine nuts:amazing, super satisfying, great consistency (way better than hummus…not as pasty) )

Dips-all dips come with Arabic flat bread :

  • Babaganoush bil lahme (roasted eggplant caviar with tahina dip topped with spiced lamb and toasted pine nuts):Amazing, creamy but has a nice texture to it that I prefer over Hummus…Hummus can be pasty which is why Im not a huge fan of it but I love eggplant based hummus/tahini dips, next time I would order this as a main meal and enjoy it with the Arabic bread because it was rather filling.
  • Muhammara:BEST Muhammara iv had in a restaurant in the Montreal downtown area!its done just the way I like it!i rarely even find it the way I like it in Lebanon or Saudi so this to me is just a great find!

I enjoyed the lovely Syrian food, especially since im so many miles away from home cooking its always nice to have a good taste of home…and you totally get that at Kazamaza only you find it in a casual, charming, dim, and rather hipster syrian resturant.

got to love it.

I had no idea that eggplant and grialc with the main ingredients to a baba ghanoush. I love both! I like that it’s also a creamier version that hummus. I like hummus, but the texture doesn’t sit well with me. This might be just the recipe I need. I can’t wait to see the pita chip recipe. I’m addicted to pita chips!
